Internet pornography has been called the, “gateway drug to sexual addiction,” by Dr. Victor Cline, a psychologist at the University of Utah. Women, though generally less susceptible to visual stimuli, are not escaping this scourge.
- One out every three visitors to adult websites is a woman. (2008 Internet Pornography Statistics)
- 9.4 million women access adult websites each month (2006 Internet Filter Review poll)
- 13 percent of women admit to accessing pornography at work.
- 17 percent of women said they struggled with pornography addiction (2006 survey released by Internet Filter Review)
- One out of every six women are addicted to pornography (2003 survey “Today’s Christian Woman”)
- 70 percent of all women who view porn keep it a secret.
“The more pornography women use, the more likely they are to be victims of non-consensual sex and the earlier the male starts using pornography, the more likely they are to be perpetrators of non-consensual sex,” says Mary Anne Layden, professor of sociology and women’s studies at Wheelock College in Boston. “Pornography is the drug of the millennium and more addictive than crack cocaine,” said Donna Rice Hughes, president of the non-profit Enough Is Enough.
With 260 new porn sites going online daily, these numbers ought to give everyone pause!
