An organization called “Fight the New Drug” is inviting everyone to participate in their annual campaign to abstain from viewing pornography for 30 days, intending for those who give it up during the month to use it as a springboard to rid their lives of pornography for good. #1. How many views per minute did Pornhub have in the year 2019?
When Pornhub shared its annual statistics in 2019, it showed that it received 80,000 visits per minute. This means, they had 5 million visits an hour, 115 million visits a day and 42 billion visits during the year. For perspective, in 1953, Playboy magazine sold 54,000 copies the month it was first released. Pornhub gets more views per minute than Playboy magazine sold in its debut month. The digital age has given humanity unlimited access to pornography.
#2. Worldwide, what percent of internet traffic is porn-related?
Statistics show that 30% of all internet traffic is related to pornography.. This means, close to one-third of every internet search has to do with pornography. Not only that, but 35% of all internet downloads are pornographic in nature.
#3. What percentage of teens have been exposed to pornography?
93% of teens boys and 63% of teen girls have been exposed to pornography with the average age of first exposure being between nine and thirteen years old.
#4. Several peer review studies have found that the relationship between pornography and poor mental health outcomes (such as depression, loneliness, anxiety, and low self-esteem) are _____ when pornography is viewed in order to escape negative emotions.
The connection between viewing pornography and low mental health seems to be almost circular, where people who viewed pornography were more likely to experience mental health issues, and those who experienced such mental health issues were more likely to view pornography. Studies have shown that often people use pornography as a way to escape negative emotions or to try and self-soothe.
#5. Bonus question from last week: What country had the highest number of assisted suicides in 2021?
Canada had the largest amount of assisted suicides in 2021, with 10,064 people dying in this manner. This was a 125% increase in the amount of people who died by assisted suicide in Canada in 2021 when compared to 2018. The Netherlands had the second largest group of people who died by assisted suicide in 2021 (7,666 people), and Belgium placed third with 2,699 people.
