As everyone works to analyze and dissect Tuesday’s election, we were disappointed but not surprised that the standard refrain is still making the rounds—“pushing conservative social issues is a dead-end, social issues can’t get conservative politicians elected.” Nothing could be further from the truth.
As Family Research Council points out: “Seventy-four judges were up for retention in Iowa–and only the three who imposed same-sex “marriage” on the state are now unemployed. Coincidence? Of the Maine legislators who redefined marriage in 2009, 22 woke up Wednesday morning without jobs. In at least six state legislatures, where a push for same-sex “marriage” was imminent, Democrats lost their majorities.”
If you don’t believe pro-family, pro-life conservatives, then listen to a pretty distressed liberal commentator referring to the dramatic changes brought by this election. He sure noticed that pro-family, pro-life social policies (and politicians!) can win elections:
“At least 78 Republican House and Senate candidates would-if given the opportunity–vote to make abortion illegal under ALL circumstances… Two years from now, we will look back on November 2, 2010, as the day that far-right Republicans… usher[ed] in the most anti-choice, anti-sex ed, anti-LGBT, anti-family planning…Congress in our nation’s history.”
We also want to vent on another “myth” that keeps floating around, the one that says we can never stop same-sex marriage from becoming legal nationwide. For this we turn to a blog post by David French of Alliance Defense Fund:
“If same-sex marriage is allegedly inevitable, why does it keep getting hammered at the ballot box?
I don’t have my head in the sand. I see the poll data indicating that young people increasingly support same-sex marriage, but I also believe that much of that support is soft — dependent on the unique peer pressures and ideological environment on college campuses. Once students emerge into the “real world” will they be so willing to further experiment with an institution already so damaged by no-fault divorce and cohabitation? We shall see.
But until then, can we please hold off on the “inevitable” talk until same-sex marriage can actually win elections”
