Protect against Title IX and submit a comment by September 12, 2022.

The US Department of Education released their proposed changes to Title IX regulations that would dramatically change the future for women and girls in federally funded activities and programs. There are many negative impacts that will harm girls, women, and families.

A government portal has been set up for you to make a comment submission.  It is very straight-forward and easy to do.  In addition, this governmental body is required to read every submission, large and small – before they can finalize the new “Rule.”  So rest assured, your input will be read and considered.

If the end of the holiday season wasn’t enough to remind me that the year had ended, then the endless talk of improvement, health goals, and ads for exercise equipment would alert me to the fact that a new year had just begun. This is what the new year does.  It starts us out on a new beginning.  And if not with new goals, a new perspective and drive to accomplish the old ones.

The New Year has this effect on us at all levels. On the individual, the family, the business, and the organization. It’s the time that we reflect upon this year’s accomplishments and disappointments. Hopefully, we set aside the losses of 2015 and figure out what we want to accomplish in 2016.

As an organization UFI is looking forward and as individuals we also need to look forward. One of our goals could be a family goal. Whether it is getting involved or staying informed. We can find some way to make a difference for our family this year and families worldwide.

Staying Informed:

United Families and likeminded organizations provide many resources on each of the issues. Here are some of my favorite.

United Families International: subscribe to our e-mail alerts and read our blog post.

World Family News: Provides current news on issues affecting families worldwide.

Family Facts: A Heritage foundation site providing social science research on marriage and family.

The National Marriage Project: The University of Virginia reports on current family trends.

Getting Involved:

One of the biggest things that I discovered during my college internship was that having the knowledge and resources can give one the courage to speak up. Once we’re informed reach out to likeminded individuals and organizations around us. Just start with one issue that you feel the most passionate about. It can be abortion, religious freedom, pornography, or one of many others.

Each state has issues that affect us locally and personally. I was surprised to learn that one of the easiest ways to speak out is during our state’s legislative sessions. E-mailing my state representatives on bills I felt strongly about gave voice to my concerns. And I learned that my “voice” made a difference.

Your own family:

As you fight for the family, remember yours at home. Working for a strong family and spending time with our spouse and children is tremendously important. Our efforts to help the family start at home. When others see that a strong marriage and happy family are possible, they will also be more likely to work towards that ideal.

So along with the goals of weight loss and saving money, add one to benefit the family. Be intentional with the time you spend with your family.  Find out more about an issue that interests you, or get involved. Whatever contribution you make it will be a needed one.
