“In India, China and many other parts of the world today, girls are killed, aborted and abandoned simply because they are girls. The United Nations estimates as many as 200 million girls are missing in the world today because of this so-called “gendercide”.” So states the website promoting a new documentary film: “It’s a Girl!” The Three Deadliest Words in the World.
It is hard for most to fathom that a mother would willing kill her baby girl, but then to realize that many mothers will do it repeatedly. The tragic tale and explanation of sex-selection abortion is best told in a book by author/researcher Mira Hvistendahl: “Unnatural Selection Choosing Boys over Girls, and The Consequences of a World Full of Men.” Oddly enough Hvistendahl is not in the pro-life camp, but her work reveals the history and the complicity of government and agencies in this continuing tragedy.
