An effort is underway to define away the humanity of unborn children. The U.N. Human Rights Committee, one of the oldest U.N. treaty bodies, is about to use its power to attack the right to life of unborn babies. This committee is preparing to give legal commentary on Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
What does Article 6 say?
“Every human being has the inherent right to life. This right shall be protected by law. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life.”
So what’s the problem?
Too many individuals – inside the United Nations system and without – don’t want to acknowledge that unborn babies are human beings. Instead, they want to create an international right to abortion. The Human Rights Committee members have taken it upon themselves to draft a legal commentary on Article 6, apparently in an effort to end the debate. The committee is preparing to release their legal commentary sometime this fall and they need to hear from you!
Our colleague, Austin Ruse, president of the Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam), warns:
“Unless we stop them, you should know that if and when Roe is ever reconsidered at the Supreme Court, the actions of this committee will be cited, either by the majority when Roe is upheld or the minority if it is overturned. The effort here is try and change international norms. But, we can stop them.”
UFI is joining C-Fam, Family Research Council, Americans United for Life and other concerned organizations in a petition to the U.N. You can be a part of this critical effort by clicking here to read and sign the petition.
Tell this U.N. Committee: The human rights of all members of the human family, including unborn babies, must be protected!
