Wednesday, the New York state Senate voted against a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in the state. The bill was voted down with an impressive 38 to 24 margin.
Gov. David Paterson had promised to sign the bill into law if it had passed, making New York the sixth state in the U.S. to allow same-sex marriage. Democrats hold a slim 32 to 30 majority in the Senate and would have needed every member to vote in favor in order to pass the legislation. Fortunately, several Democratic senators and every Republican senator opposed the bill.
This vote is a great victory for the pro-family cause and traditional marriage across the U.S. Following the October’s victory in Maine, it is another strong reminder that most Americans still believe in traditional marriage between one man and one woman.
