A last minute ruling on Monday put a hold on what would have been the first same-sex marriage in Latin America yesterday. The hold came after a national judge overturned a previous ruling that would have allowed Alex Freyre and Jose Maria Di Bello to marry yesterday in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He ruled that the city judge who approved the marriage did not have the power to make the ruling.
The couple is now taking the case to the Supreme Court. “We’re going to ask for the annulment of the judge’s decision to suspend the wedding and going to sue her for abuse of power and for ruling against the law,” said Maria Rachid, the couple’s lawyer.
