From the Desk of Carol Soelberg:
Gratefully, many of you have responded to the invitation we extended last week to express thanks to Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron for his valiant stand on strengthening the family as a means to alleviate societal ills. If you have not yet added your name to this letter, there is still time to do so.It only takes a moment and adds tremendous support to this man’s amazing efforts. Believe me the opposition is letting him hear it from them.
Let’s not be out done. Mr. Cameron needs to know how you feel about the importance of the family. Such a simple expression of support will make a huge difference in turning one countries attention to the very source of every country’s strength and success–the family. Do it now–before you forget! Thank you!
The second part of a piece we sent you on August 3, 2011, .entitled “Unmasking Goliath.” In that alert Tom Christensen posed the question: “Given the obvious contributions of cohesive families to society, not the least of which is to supply and train the country’s next generation, who is this Goliath that seeks to marginalize, redefine and dismantle the traditional family?”
Mr. Christensen explains: “In a nutshell, Goliath represents those who seek power, funding, and new individual rights under a coercive, centralized regime. Goliath views the traditional family as the enemy because family advocates value limited, decentralized, constitutional government founded upon human agency and fixed natural rights and laws”. In this week’s alert, Mr. Christensen provides a checklist for all supporters of the traditional family to follow to keep “Goliath” from permeating your country, community–even the walls of your own home. I wish to express sincere appreciation to Mr. Christensen for articulating concrete tools for protecting and preserving our families. May we all make preserving a future for families a priority in our lives!
Sincerely,

Christensen: Standing up to Goliath
Last month, I attempted to put a face on Goliath, the formidable opponent of the traditional family at the United Nations. In this alert, I will provide a check list for regular people who wish to stand up to his nonsense. Unfortunately, Goliath is not confined to the UN; he has permeated virtually every level of society.
1. Get your own life and family in order.
A. Live your religion. Acceptance of and adherence to moral law is the foundation of a unified, just, free and family-centered society.
B. Put your marriage first. Families flourish when spouses are true to each other, forgive and learn from their mistakes, and work together.
C. Have or adopt children. Those against the family generally do not reproduce. The enemy of the family dies by attrition if it is unable to capture the hearts and minds of your children.
D. Be a responsible parent. Children are more likely to marry and follow their parents’ examples when parents love each other, set boundaries and expectations, and work, play and worship as families.
E. Turn off Goliath. Goliath cannot invade your home unless you invite him. Do not grant him access via the TV or Internet. Fill you home with that which is lovely, inspiring and true.
2. Educate yourself and your family.
A. Understand your government. Government is less likely to encroach upon a well-educated citizenry. If you are an American, appreciate the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the writings of the Founders and the documented sources of their ideas.
B. Keep current. Engage in critical analysis rather than repeating the party line. Dispel the myths and rationalizations justifying the destruction of life, marriage, agency, religion, and the family.
C. Lead your family. Do not leave it to schools, churches, government or peers to guide, provide for, or educate your children. Teach and exemplify your well reasoned points of view.
3. Make your voice heard.
A. Vote for good candidates. It is not enough to register and vote. In fact, I would rather my ill-informed friends do not vote! Vote for people who respect family, freedom, and the rule of law.
B. Protect your primary institutions. Goliath leads a culture war to control all levels of government, the media, schools, and houses of worship. These are your institutions; make them work for you.
C. Don’t be intimidated. Often Goliath’s loud voice is the only one heard in the room. Respond to his insults with facts, humor, and numbers. History, precedent and reason are on your side.
D. Listen empathically. Formulate good questions you are prepared to answer. Listen patiently without interrupting. Try to be a friend and positive influence to all in your circle of influence.
E. Form Alliances. Strength is in numbers. Goliath is supported by an army of loyal supporters. Too often religious people are divided by doctrinal differences and prejudices. They must learn to find common ground and work effectively together–like we do at the UN.
F. Support advocacy groups that speak for you. Join and financially contribute to groups that monitor high level appointments, cases and policy conferences, and fight distant battles for you. Sometimes small organizations, banning together, are the most effective. Check out United Families. It is terrific: efficient, bold, scientific and resourceful. It is respected by its allies and feared by its adversaries.
