UFI Joins with Prop 8 Coalition Leaders to Denounce Attacks by Opponents

Bev Rice.jpgDear ~Contact.FirstName~,

Last Friday, Proposition 8 Coalition Leaders held a press conference to denounce the vicious attacks against individuals, churches and businesses who supported the California marriage amendment.  United Families was proud to stand with other leaders to show support to those who have been subjected to these tactics.

Frank Shubert, a co-manager of the campaign suggested that despite the "trampling of civil rights and now domestic terrorism" that there was a "deafening silence" from the elected officials.  He asked Governor Schwarzenegger, Senator Diane Feinstein and others to support those who are "being bullied by angry mobs".  California chapter members also received a request last Friday alerting them to the situation and asking them to contact their state legislature and the governor.   Click here to see excerpts from the press conference.

It is difficult to imagine that in the year 2008 people are being attacked for exercising their constitutional rights to vote their conscience.  52% of Californians supported the amendment to the California constitution that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.  The attacks in California have included the taking and stomping on a cross held by a grandmother, a musical theatre director being forced to resign, a Mexican restaurant boycotted and picketed and numerous churches having their property defaced.

United Families has defended the traditional family for 30 years.  The efforts of the opposition are gaining momentum.  We will not be deterred.  We are committed to our mission to educate about the issues; advocate for the family wherever it is being attacked; and serving families who need our help. Please join us.  Introduce United Families to your family and friends.  Help us to build a larger tent where all those who believe in strong families can gather. United Families will always be here to provide respite from the storm.

Goals for the Upcoming Year

United Families International will look to accomplish several goals next year.  These include:

* Work to protect traditional marriage between a man and a woman in the state, national and international arenas.

- Pro-actively work to stifle efforts of anti-family forces promoting the universal right for all women to an abortion at the United Nations and on the national and international level.

- Strengthen and expand our humanitarian program, Stay Alive  to additional nations in Africa.  Additionally, areas in India and Central America will be explored for implementation.

- Increase the number of state chapters.  These chapters will provide a means for members to actively advocate within their own states under the direction of United Families International
