Secretary of state Hillary Clinton spent a second day on Capitol Hill discussing foreign affairs and the exchange she had over abortion with a Republican congressman is getting a lot of attention in pro-life circles.

Rep. Chris Smith, R-NJ, began by calling Clinton out on her reception of the Margaret Sanger Award from Planned Parenthood in March.

“As I think you know, in 2008 alone Planned Parenthood killed more than 305,000 children by abortion in the United States alone and millions more world wide,” he said.

Smith then questioned Clinton on the whether the Obama administration had plans to overturn or weaken pro-life laws in African and Latin American countries.
“Does the United States definition of the term reproductive health or reproductive services or reproductive rights include abortion?” he asked.

Clinton did not comment on Margaret Sanger, but responded by saying that family planning is an important part of women’s health.

“Reproductive health includes access to abortion,” Clinton replied. “That I believe should be safe, legal, and rare. We are now an administration that will protect the rights of women including their rights to reproductive healthcare.”
