Why I'm Involved

Julie Walker, Director of Operations

I joined the United Families International effort to offer my business skills and experience, but have stayed for years now because of the cause for which too few are fighting. As a mother raising three teenagers, I was increasingly despondent with the “me” mentality in social policy and how it has often led to an unbalanced emphasis on human rights. I also observed the rapidly disappearing standards of morality and personal responsibility. United Families International supports the greater good of what is best for society by looking at the obvious -- “What has happened to other societies that have adopted similar policies?” “What will be the after effects of society adopting certain policies?” Our work is not easy and at first blush, some may disagree with our positions, but with a little education and research, it is easy to see how critical stable and loving family life is to our societies.

Heather Sandstrom, Member, UFI's Governing Board

I feel it is a great responsibility to defend and strengthen the institution of marriage and families as the most important fundamental unit of society. The disintegration of marriage and families will bring about national and international calamities, as proven by history, if we do not stand up and protect them. I love to be involved in informing and educating others how they can make a difference in their own families and communities to strengthen marriage and families. We have to resist dangerous cultural movements that attack the family, including the homosexual lifestyle, abortion, cohabitation, immorality and violence. I love trying to help others strengthen families in the world, our own nation, community and most importantly my own home and family.

Carol Soelberg , UFI President

My husband Glade and I are blessed to have 13 children and 31 grandchildren. For us, family is our deepest joy, our greatest work and our most important accomplishment. The basic truth that the family is the fundamental unit of society is a given in our home and our lives. But in the last several years, I have been appalled to discover that what just decades ago would have been unthinkable is now an everyday occurrence – the institution of the family is under an unprecedented attack.

When I was recently asked by UFI to serve as its president, I knew that it would be a sacrifice. My schedule was already full with my own family and some very good causes, including the fact that Glade and I had just been selected as the National Parents of the Year. I recognized that UFI is a powerful and essential player in the all-important fight to preserve the family. I also realized that this is a fight we cannot and must not lose. For on the outcome depends the future or our posterity.

Bob Worsley, Member, UFI's Governing Board

I am involved with UFI due to my concern about where the basic unit of society is going... the family. I read and study secular studies on the subject and feel like something very wrong is pushing families in a negative direction. I am concerned about same-sex “marriage” and other attacks on the legal institution of marriage, but my biggest concerns revolve around the basic values that seem to be eroding under our feet. I am concerned about divorce rates, absent or weak fathers, child abuse, individualism, culture wars and other core issues that impact even more families than same-sex “marriage,” etc.  I look forward to assisting in my spare time to make sure all of us are aware of the cracking foundations under families.
